Gambler
My hooves sunk deeply into the earth, it was not from my weight but more from how loose the soil was. I could not see anything except for a few short feet in front of me; the night was a starless one and the moon was in hiding. A thick mist permeated the air, a reaction caused by the heat of the day mixing with the quick chill of the night. My other senses picked up on every little detail though, smell brought to me the pungent smell of a stale water source, while my ears heard the strange cries of some unknown beast. Apparently I wasn't the only one who had been unfortunate to stumble upon this land. Suddenly two iridescent lights flamed to life right before me. I gave no notion that I had actually been surprised to have the blinding lights flash alive. My body actually slowed down, my blood thickened in my veins and my breathing slowed. With calculating eyes I wondered over the thing that seemed to float in front of me. After a few seconds I discovered that the burning white lights were actually hollow eyes. The thing in front of me made a sound, something that echoed in the marrow in my bones and threatened to chill my heart. This ghost like thing had no feel of life, it just was, which in its self was odd. It must have been murdered or tortured to death if it still clung to this world. Maybe it didn't realise that it was dead that it had only the after life to look forward to. I snorted, my big head moving down then up with the motion. The ghost gave a single blink of it's glowing eyes, it was burning then put out then flaring to life again and then when it next closed it's eyes the thing never came back. Slowly the feeling of 'nothingness' faded and I was left to wonder the darkness by myself once again.
But being with my self was not necessarily a good thing. It allowed my mind to wonder, to think of the past. And having my brain go into memories was not a smart thing, it always had me going into a fowl mood after. So I forced my mind to go to the ... not too past. To the desert, in the middle of the night with the sky lighted by the silver rays of the moon and her shinning children. Charun a mare that had given me a run for everything I was. Standing up to me as fiercely as if she had been a stallion that towered over me even though she was anything but. What if I had been like her when I was younger? Able to stand up to anyone who dared punish me for unrightful reasons? If I had then I doubt that I would be as scarred mentally and physically as I was now. I didn't trust the touch of others, nor the intention of them. How could I when all I had ever known was a stinging touch from the ones who I had been supposed to lean on? But then again if I hadn't been a part of my home band then I wouldn't be the equine I was today. Weather that was a good or bad thing was still undecided.
The rich smell of decaying lumber entered my nasals, it was so strong that it knocked me out of my thoughts and back into the now. My feet had been carrying me for all this time without the lead of my mind. I now found that I had wondered away from the waters edge and had now entered into what seemed to be a grave yard for what had once been tall tree's. The mist wasn't so thick here and I could see better with my eyes, the pupils of them were so large there was no longer any white. They captured all the little light that there was to be found. For as far as I could see there were toppled tree's cut in half at odd angles so that the heads now laid upon the gritty ground and the stems of them stuck out into the air. When day came the land could not grow because of all the shadows that still resides here. It was a pity, the land was vast and if given a chance would be able to be a true wonder to the eye's.
I flicked my tail to stretch out it's muscles and then continued on. Now that I had gotten a taste of what the Terra had to offer I wanted to explore it more. After hours of wondering I found that not much ell's lived here. A few ground animals like moles and rats hid themselves in the fallen logs while bats flew the darkened skies. If any other equines had roamed here it had been long ago because there was no longer any scent of them. For some odd reason I found myself not wanting to leave this land when I reached the borders of the territory. Though there was a faint whiff of other's on the wind and it called to me, demanded that I go and investigate them I wanted to stay.
I wasn't sure if I was ready to do what my mind and body both told me to do. Never in my life had I had something of my own. It had always been someone else's even my freedom. But now looking back at the black landscape of the forgotten Terra I felt a kinship with it. Because I myself had been left to fend for myself, with no one to care. Should I really allow myself to hope? When ever I had that lick of hope had always been squashed. But then again if I didn't let myself believe that I could belong to this land then what could I say that I had ever accomplished in my life? So far I had done nothing with it, now I knew was my chance.
With a fierce scream I hefted the top half of my body up into the air. My powerfully muscled haunches bunched with the weight of my full body while my front legs stroked the air with languid thrusts. My call, my body's movements all said. MINE and that would be how it was for the rest of my life. I was committing myself to this devilish land and in doing so I was claiming my future as my own.
I am not too sure, this is just a simple claiming post, Charun is from his past so don't mind it. As for the description of the land how long should that be?
